This film about the life of Betsy Ross portrays the maker of the first Stars and Stripes flag is a different light due to the relatively unknown story of her. This tale features Betsy (Alice Brady) and her sister Carissa (Lillian Cook). Both women have romantic feelings for the same man, Clarence Vernon (Frank Mayo) a British soldier. A suitor for Betsy, Joseph Ashburn (John Bowers), challenges Vernon to a duel for the right to court Betsy. Ashburn apparently kills his opponent, which forces him to adopt a new identity and he joins General Washington's army. Meanwhile, Vernon is not dead and he recovers from his injuries in time to rejoin his regiment in the British army. A climactic finale brings these two rivals for Betsy affections together as well as brings us the opportunity for Betsy to perform her historical act.
